Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I take inspiration from my upbringing. As a former foster kid my music is all about family, community and healing. Musically, I follow in the footsteps of The Roots as a rapper with a live band. Finally, I’m inspired by my San Francisco roots. San Quinn was my favorite rapper growing up! I’m blessed to have collaborated with a lot of my local inspirations.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at Global Citizen would be special because its message and goals align with mine. It would empower me to continue my community work. My team and I hold food and toy drives in San Francisco regularly, so being able to contribute to similar efforts on on a larger scale would be amazing. I’d also love to showcase the amazing show that my band and I put on - I know everyone who sees it would leave feeling inspired!
What would you do with $50,000?
I have a live show series called “Stoop Sessions” that I can envision being a massive platform for artists if we could invest in it. I’m blessed to have a team of musicians and visual artists that believe in it as well - about half of the money would be used to pay them so we can make that happen. The rest would go towards recording costs, marketing and visuals for my own music projects, as well as supplementing my living costs.
