Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My musical inspirations are extremely broad. I mainly draw from neo-soul artists such as Erykah Badu and D'Angelo because of their sultry bass lines and swinging, jazzy drumlines; however, my writing style tends to be more inspired by rock and soft rock acts like Fall Out Boy and Fleetwood Mac. I also draw inspiration from Chaka Khan and Tina Turner for many of my disco and soul grooves. I grew up around jazz and the reggae and draw some inspo from artists like Gary Clark Jr. and Chronixx.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would impact my career by allowing me to showcase my art to a more broad audience. I believe this opportunity would allow me to find my tribe and my niche of artists and fans. This performance, I believe, would be a game-changer because it would expose me to a world of people who don't even know they're missing out on the beautiful art I create.
What would you do with $50,000?
With the $50,000 I would be able to work with PR representatives for my upcoming album. I would be able to produce high quality imagery and music videos as well as fund a small tour for myself and my band. I would like to upgrade our studio/practice space so we always have somewhere to create and I would kickstart my funding for a creative/mental health space in my city where people can take free courses in the arts and access mental health services (I'm a licensed therapist).
