Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My musically inspiration is John Coltrane. He is someone who was not a prodigy, and not even immediately recognized as a talent in the jazz music scene during the 1940s and 1950s. However, through his pure will and perseverance, he managed to become one of the legends of the art form. He is also someone who I deeply respect for his views on the world, and his own religious journey and struggle with addiction.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It would absolutely boost the career of any musician. For me personally, it would allow anyone to see that high school and college musicians can make it in the world, and be successful. For many, being a musician is looked down upon because it often does not make as much money as other careers. However, this needs to be changed in society.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would give a large portion of it to the members of my band, and donate some to my schools music program. I would also likely use some of it to purchase a new tenor trombone for myself and other music materials.
