As a proud member of the legendary Kenton family, I, Angie K Kenton, carry a deep musical legacy rooted in the Dominican Republic. My uncles from “Los Kenton” revolutionized Merengue in the 80s and 90s, pioneering choreography that brought the genre to life on stage. Their innovation and passion inspired my own journey in music, shaping my rhythm, stage presence, and commitment to honoring our cultural roots through every performance.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at Global Citizen Festival is a powerful milestone in my career. It allows me to revive and honor the legacy of my uncles, Los Kenton, who helped shape Merengue’s golden era. Sharing this stage brings their pioneering spirit to a global audience, showcasing how Merengue continues to influence today’s stars like Bad Bunny and Karol G. It’s my way of keeping our sound alive and inspiring a new generation to embrace our vibrant musical roots.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, I would donate 10% to a music foundation in the Dominican Republic to support young talent and preserve our cultural sounds. The rest would go toward building the music studio I’ve always dreamed of—an inspiring space not just for me, but for other musicians to create, collaborate, and grow. It would be a creative hub rooted in legacy, innovation, and community.
