Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Our music is inspired by traditional Moroccan styles like Gnawa and Chaabi, the raw energy of psychedelic rock (like Hendrix and Tinariwen), the groove of funk, and the soul of desert blues. We create a power trio sound by blending electric awicha/Mandole, Guembri and Drums, with added percussion and flutes. We also draw inspiration from music around the world, believing in the strong connections between continents. Something we love to explore while touring.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I believe participating in such a major event would transform Bab L' Bluz's career. It offers exposure to thousands in a city known for its musical legacy, helping us build a fan base and attracting professionals. It’s every musician’s dream! This opportunity also allows us to highlight our message of peace and the defense of human rights, regardless of origin, religion, or sexual orientation, while amplifying our advocacy for women’s rights globally.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, we would organize a creative residency and plan the recording of Bab L’Bluz’s third album. It would cover studio, travel, accommodation, musicians, guests, meals, and instrument costs... After recording our recent records at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in the UK, it would be an honor to record the next one in the U.S., the land of music!
