Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I really look up to writers like Ursula K. Le Guin and Maggie Nelson—they aren’t musicians, but I appreciate the ways in which they yearn and emote. I’m always trying to create a musical universe as patient and elegant as Alexi Murdoch, hoping that patience and elegance carries over into my lived experience. And then there’s Tears for Fears—a beloved, expansive listen every time.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I don’t like to say anything will or won’t do anything. I love the idea of trying things and seeing what works. For me, maintaining a curiosity about all opportunities and allowing them to bring something to my life I couldn’t possibly predict is necessary for my self-preservation.
What would you do with $50,000?
I wrote my first album at 25–I’m 30 now! I’d love to get back into the studio to see how my sound and my lyrics have evolved as I’ve evolved.
