Who or what is your musical inspiration?
First and foremost, the folk traditions of all cultures of the world. Music of the people and for the people meant to uplift our souls. Music is energy dancing, so the life force and all things living inspires me. I’m ignited by Cab Calloway, Clyde McPhatter, Little Richard, Dylan, Springsteen, and Zappa all the way to Brittany Howard, Jack White and Gogol Bordello—to name a few that connect my spiritual veins. Rhythm and melody celebrates the Good, and helps us carry the rest.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It would be my career. Meaning, every time I get on stage and share my unique blend of gifts that channeled through me, and receive the energy of openhearted people, that’s the whole point and will be always. Professionally, it would be a quantum leap of exposure, and I hope that it’d help me forge connections that would allow me to sustain myself with a living in music. That would mean the world as I’d have more opportunity to create art and travel, waving the torch for all w
What would you do with $50,000?
Plain and simple. I’d put it back into the mission to create authentic and innovative music that inspires human beings. It would afford more space in the short term to hone the studio sound, rehearse the band to new levels of beauty, and invest in other aspects of the rock medium like films, promotion, costumes etc. If I had the money right now, I would walk out of this forsaken restaurant I work in and march right to the studio to finish our album which I believe could be groundbreaking.
