Who or what is your musical inspiration?
We call our music "Cosmic Country", a mix of bluegrass, country, rock, electric and acoustic guitar. The electric washtub bass has a sound all it's own, is played similar to an upright bass but with one string. Both of us in Box and Bucket can sing leads and harmonies. We are inspired by Tanya Tucker, Daniel Donato, also Lovesick Duet, from Italy, amongst others. How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
My electric bucket bass would get the respect it deserves! Our duet is super fun to see and hear, especially when playing blazing fast tempos with guitarist Porter McClister, of Nashville fame. Look him up on Youtube! I want to put the electric washtub bass on the biggest stages in the world, show what this unique home built instrument can do in a concert setting. Our sound is unique - Box and Bucket band have the goods and touring experience, we sure could use a large audience to play to!
What would you do with $50,000?
Donate 5 years of rental hall, Lincoln Pops Big Band in Gleneden Beach, Oregon, I'm the vibraphonist of 15 years. Box and Bucket would love to return to Ireland for Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues Festival every year. Film a documentary, history of the bucket bass. I would have the money to fly to LA or New York to realize a dream that a talk show host might invite the best bucket players to a televised "Washtub Bass Hoedown-Showdown!"
