Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I grew up listening to all genres; the music that stuck with me the most was blues, 90’s country, and southern rock. But to pick a genre I’d say rock; Foreigner, Reo Speedwagon, and Def Leopard they were my first influences. I would pretend I was in concert on the front porch of an abandoned house in Amarillo, TX where I would sing “Hysteria” and “I Wanna Know What Love Is” to the top of my lungs while playing used cassette tapes on a used tape player.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
To perform on that stage would be a mile marker in one’s career for sure. I no longer dream of stardom or fame; my hearts desire now is to create music and write songs to spur people to think before they act and to recall where they were when they heard a song like “Sweet Home Alabama” for the first time. It would be an honor for at least one of my songs to have that kind of impact on people’s lives.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would give back to the ones who’ve helped me, invest back into my career, and try to help someone that’s less fortunate than me. I never want to forget where I came from; humble beginnings.
