A close friend of mine I served with in the Marines was killed. That’s how this whole thing started. His family had a benefit to help with funeral cost. They raffled off a guitar and I won it. I felt an obligation to play. It snowballed into writing songs. Other than that, I get a lot of inspiration from Arlo McKinley, Chris Knight, Jason Isbell, John Moreland, Eric Church, and Steve Earl to name a few.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Our songs are real. They come from experience. I think it would be an opportunity to get our words out and let everyone hear what we have to say.
What would you do with $50,000?
Probably buy some shit we ain’t supposed to have and give the rest away.
