Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Mariah Carey’s music helped me through some of the hardest times of my life, losing my mom, and growing up the way I did- knowing she wrote many of her own songs it made me feel like I knew even a small part of her. That inspired me to write my own music in hopes when people listen they feel like they know me or feel some type of relation to the art I’m putting out there.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
One of the hardest things to do as an independent artist, is get “gigs”. Having this visibility would not only give me a platform for myself to share my voice but also to advocate and open doors for other queer, artists of color.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would finally complete my first album. I would also partner with a homeless youth organization here in NYC, to create a scholarship / grant for young under privileged musicians who have never recorded a song before to get them in a real studio to make music for the first time! Every aspiring artist should experience what it’s like to bring their creation to life, there just aren’t many resources to do that- I want to be a resource.
