Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My main musical inspiration is the dreamy aspect of Americana music that touches on our mythic ideals. The musicians that best support that aspect are Bruce Springsteen, Gene Clark, Waylon Jennings, and the Byrds. I am a product of my environment, growing up where the cowboys and hippies get along in Austin, Texas. There, you are likely to catch pedal steel and synthesizer on the same wind.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It would be a big step for me to fulfill my dream. Performing on stage would boost my exposure and potentially allow me to connect with likeminded individuals who would enjoy the messages or feelings I write about. I really just want to continue writing good songs and spreading them out into the world, mixing my real life stories and made-up ones too. I think we’ve lost a little bit of vulnerability in Americana songwriting. I want to add it back.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would save most, and use the rest to boost my career, record in a top notch studio, and pay off any debts so that I can give my time + youth completely to my dream. I also have a wish to one day help my mother in diabetic research so that she and others can live a normal life one day.
