Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I'm inspired by the visceral reaction that a well-written song can evoke: when I was thirteen, I heard "Reptilia" by The Strokes and it blew my mind! I thought it was the most intense thing ever. I felt the same connection listening to bands like The Killers and Paramore as I was growing up. Later in my teens, when I heard Jeff Buckley's "Grace" album, it totally changed everything for me. How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I think music is especially necessary at this point in history to help bring people together and inspire positive cultural shifts. Playing at the Global Citizen Festival would be a wonderful way to present my songs to a community that might resonate with them and be able to use them for good. I'd love to get to play my songs for a large audience like that! It would also be very cool to get to participate as an Aussie expat now permanently based in the US ...a global citizen!
What would you do with $50,000?
I'd invest in my career: making art and getting it to the people who will really care about it is expensive, and I'm a full time working musician. So I'd probably try to use it to collaborate with other talented creatives that I admire, build my social media presence, and upgrade my studio equipment. Maybe I'd use some to relocate back to NYC or Nashville.
