Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I've always been inspired by New York City and what it means to me: Individuality, creativity, perseverance, and adventure! That's why I wrote songs like New York Forever, Don't Wait, and Whatever You Want - available on Spotify! I'm also deeply inspired by the love of my life! She's why I wrote songs like 6th Avenue, Fine Wine, and As Long As You're There. I also write songs like Straight Line, Maybe Then, and Sometimes - because life's a journey. You can watch me play them all on TikTok;)
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I've been teaching guitar in New York City for many years with the iconic flyer campaign "Dan Smith Will Teach You Guitar", but this would mean I could finally break through to the larger audience I've been longing for as a songwriter and performer! The Global Citizen's concert is the perfect platform for me! Especially for my song Everybody's Different. It's all about diversity and unity! Thank you for this opportunity🙏🏼
What would you do with $50,000?
After I donate a portion of it to Greenpeace, I would use the rest to fund my short film (proof of concept for a series) called Open Mic about a guitar teacher (Me) navigating the crazy world of quirky, aspiring perfomers in New York City seeking romance, redemption and a round of applause! Once I make the film, I'll bring it to film festivals and market it to major streaming platforms.
