Who or what is your musical inspiration?
From a young age, I was deeply influenced by jazz and the rhythms of my Haitian community. Kompa and traditional Haitian folk music are the foundation of my sound — they live in my spirit and voice. I’ve also drawn inspiration from global artists like The Fugees, whose powerful storytelling and commitment to justice shaped how I use music to speak truth and spark change.

Performing at Global Citizens Festival would be a pivotal moment in my career, not just as an artist, but as a trailblazer for Kompa and Afro-Caribbean music. I’ve always believed in the power of music to uplift, to connect, and to heal. As someone deeply rooted in Haitian culture, I carry the sound of my people wherever I go — and to stand on that global stage would be a message of resilience and representation.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, I would invest directly into growing the Darline Desca Foundation, MARABOU HERITAGE — a space dedicated to empowering women in the arts and nurturing creative expression in children through music and culture. This support would open doors for voices in my community who never believed they had options, and help them see that their dreams are valid, powerful, and possible.
