Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My musical inspiration ranges across the board. Motown made me, but MTV raised me, so I appreciate artist such as Miles Davis, Quincy Jones & Grover Washington all the way to artists such as Green Day, Jimi Hendrix, Pharrell and Jay Z. My father had a large influence on my musical taste, allowing me to rummage through his vinyls and cassettes as a child.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Citizen Festival would not only provide DJ/Producer exposure, but it would complete my branding as being a performer who supports my community and plays for the positive impact of music on others lives. It would also provide the opportunity to stretch my skills and play for a different audience than I typically play at home.
What would you do with $50,000?
I developed and teach a 6 week How to DJ 101 course. The majority of students come from an LGBT+ background as well as persons who deal with some sort of diagnosed mental condition (depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc). The course has been more rewarding than I ever dreamed, watching these students grow and gain the ability to perform in public, using the power of music. I'd use the $50k to move the course to a public facility, where the computer and DJ equipment is also provided.
