"‘Soulmate’ is for Ronald—my high school sweetheart & husband, now gone. I turn deep love into timeless songs. I write what hearts remember
Thank you for generously supporting Dawn Martin in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to empower Global Citizen in their mission to eradicate extreme poverty and create a world where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Marvin Gaye (his heart), Teena Marie (Teena’s edge), Alicia Keys, (Alicia’s soul) Kandace Springs (Kandace’s cool) and Erroll Garner (Erroll’s genius!)
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
The Global Citizen Festival could open doors, grow my audience, and prove that timeless music still wins. I’m ready for that moment. I’m living proof that dreams don’t expire and it’s never too late to rise, shine, and be heard! The Global Citizen Festival would show the world that age doesn’t silence talent. The timing is perfect because I’ve lived the lyrics—now I’m ready to sing them out loud!
What would you do with $50,000?
If awarded $50K, I’d donate to aged-out foster youth and disabled individuals—two causes I deeply love. No one should face life alone at 18, and no one chooses how they’re born. I’ve always helped disabled people in everyday life—loading groceries, assisting from wheelchairs—not for praise, but because I care. When they thank me, I say, “It’s my pleasure.” Helping others isn’t charity—it’s who I am.
