Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I'm inspired by any musician who devotes their life to the creation and performance of music. More than seeking out fame or accolades, being an artist is a way of life, and music is an integral part of the fabric of our society. We need to encourage people to view art as an essential, active practice in their daily lives. Music is a major component to what makes life worth living and I salute any individual who picks up the torch and works to make our world richer and more vibrant.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Obviously, it would expose our music to a wider audience, but as an anti-poverty activist myself, I believe in what the organization stands for. Economic disparity is one the major issues our world is facing, and needs to be addressed in order to give every human being a chance to live without fear of being without a home, without food, and without adequate health care. Our song "Poverty Line" is but one example of how seriously my band Dead Root Revival takes this issue.
What would you do with $50,000?
There's a joke up here in Canada... What did the Canadian musician do when they won the lottery? They kept on touring until the money ran out. We would inject that money into our business. It would help us pay for promotions, rent venues and sound techs, and purchase merchandise, etc.
