Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My musical inspiration is life itself - its chaos, calm, mentors, teachers, my immediate family, and their wins, losses, wounds, and my tight-knit creative community in Chicago. Sonically, I'm shaped by Frank Ocean, Beyonce, Musiq Soulchild, Kendrick Lamar, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Ripperton, and Andre3000. I am obsessed with sweet, sultry soundscapes. My work celebrates and furthers these styles through authenticity, introspection, and exploring the intersection of being Black and Queer in America.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at Global Citizen Festival would be a game-changer for my career. It brings me closer to the visibility I’ve spent 11 years building as a solo singer, rapper, vocal producer, and experience curator. Sharing my music on a stage this monumental would elevate my artistic journey and spotlight the stories of young queer kids who feel ‘on the outside looking in.’ I’m ready to seize this moment.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, I’d invest in producing and touring my debut album Demesexual—bringing healing, joy, and representation to Black queer communities. I’d build immersive live experiences, support other independent creatives, and develop and execute my music-meets-cannabis platform to amplify stories that don’t often get heard. This funding would fuel freedom, not just for me, but for my community.
