Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My greatest inspiration is my mother, Meherangez Hunzai, my first music teacher and a Sufi singer from Hunza Valley, Pakistan. She defied norms as the first woman to sing in a male-dominated society, facing death threats and being forced to leave our village. When diagnosed with cancer, she turned to music for healing, composing melodies and singing through the pain. Through her, I learned that music is not just a passion,it is the force that saves, strengthens, and never abandons you.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would significantly impact my career by providing a global platform to showcase my unique fusion of cultural music. It would offer exposure to a diverse audience, open doors for collaborations, and align my music with meaningful social causes. The opportunity to inspire others, share my story, and use art for change would be a key milestone in my journey, helping me grow as an artist and amplify my mission of unity and healing through music.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, I would divide it between two powerful causes that shape my journey. Half would go to a cancer hospital in Pakistan, helping others battling the same illness that impacted my mother’s life. The rest I would use for my education at Berklee College of Music, allowing me to sharpen my skills and make a greater impact in the music world. This blend of giving back and investing in my future would not only support my dreams but also honour the strength of those who’ve inspire
