Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I love pulling inspiration from everything around me, especially powerful feminine voices ranging in genre. From Nina Simone to Gwen Stefani to Lizzy Hale, I follow in their footsteps by using my voice to not only stand for what I feel is important but to have fun while doing so. Women who push the bounds of what's expected are pushing our evolution forward, and I use my platform to speak about that & the gap of understanding that is missing in your average local music scene.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
This would absolutely change my life. At 24 with no savings & no parents, I've created a presence in the gulf coast music scene by trading my skills as a chef and event coordinator to get my foot into doors. Once on stage, a different animal comes out and it truly speaks for itself. I have only gotten to where I am by my own sheer will, belief, and determination. I know for a fact if I was gifted this opportunity, it would not go to waste.
What would you do with $50,000?
The dream is to create experiences instead of just shows. We want to be heard, and not get caught in the machine of the world. Merch, tours, albums, music videos - all the things that keep us alive and going cost money. It would mean the utmost of freedom for us to express ourselves without any financial roadblocks. That is where creativity can truly thrive.
