Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My first instrument is violin, and my playing style is influenced by Irish technique - but my current music is not Irish! Since I also teach music, my music discretely uses a variety of compositional devices. I like to challenge myself to do things that aren’t commonly done. (Examples: “Sixth Sense” a catchy song in 5/4 meter, “I Love Everything About You” - a danceable song in 3/4, or “Memento Mori” - modulating down a half-step instead of up the usual
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I would appreciate the help in adding any new listeners to my music. Getting your music "out there" is so very difficult. It is also difficult to make a living playing music when streaming services such as Spotify only pay out 0.001 cent per stream!
What would you do with $50,000?
I would use the funds to press vinyl of some of my previous ten albums, as well as funding my next album - album number 12. Vinyl costs a minimum of $1,600 each for 100 copies. My 1960s Gibson vintage acoustic guitar is getting quite worn, and needs to be replaced. And the cost of violin strings has gone up dramatically in the last few years - two of the strings are silver-wound, and run $35-42 each.
