Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My Momma is a bluegrass guitar player + teacher and she taught me everything I know about music. When I was in high school, we started playing out together as a duo and I got to cut my teeth singing harmonies around Virginia. My mom's side of the family plays bluegrass music & I grew up jamming on guitar and banjo with them. The familial ties allowed me to find my songbird voice & passion for storytelling. I write songs about my heartbreaks as well as political activism & environment
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I write songs about caring for your neighbor, climate change, feminism, LGBTQ acceptance, & love and I think my songwriting would work perfectly with the messaging of Global Citizen! I've been working at a music career for over a decade now and I could use a big stage to share my music and connect with like-minded fans. I've played many regional festivals in Virginia, but never played a festival as large as GCF and I know it would be a MAJOR boost for me.
What would you do with $50,000?
OMG so much! I would make a budget and spend that money so freaking strategically - that's career changing $ for me! Just a few of the things I would do: shoot a music video, hire an all women band to back me on tour, hire a publicist and a PR agency to help me market my songs, buy studio time to record an album, pay mixing engineer, pay mastering engineer, buy META, Spotify, and TikTok ads to promote the music, hire a videographer + photographer for touring events, & also get a diet coke!!
