Gil Scott-Heron (1949 – 2011) a civil rights activist, musician and author. His gift of turning daily news into social satire and attaching thought-provoking rhythms was part of his genius. Gil's music was jazz & blues and his spoken word reflects the turbulence & uncertainty of our times with a satirical edge told in the tradition of oral poetry & storytelling. Gil wrote The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, won a Posthumous Grammy & a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Award.

Youth have the opportunity to sing, recite, dance, scat, rap, heal, rebuild and sell their he/art. Designed to foster creativity and critical thinking and promote a deeper understanding of social issues through the exploration of art.
