Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Discovering artists like David Bowie and Shirley Manson was life-changing! Seeing people who defied rules about gender and genre really inspired me not just sonically (I love to blend Let's Dance era Bowie sounds with gritty mid-90s Garbage edge), but also in how I perform and present myself on stage. Both of these artists found their stride "later" in life by the industry's standards (30s) and I want to show the world that creativity doesn't stall when you hit 30 or 40. Quite the oppo
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I want my music to change the world. Having the privilege of performing on a stage that is not only meant to showcase some of the greatest artists of our time, but also raise money and awareness to combat poverty is exactly the kind of trajectory I want my career to have. Music isn't just about writing about your feelings to a great beat (though I do that well!), it's about making everyone feel less alone. With the largest audience of my career, I'd hope to connect and do just that.
What would you do with $50,000?
After buying some new gear (unsexy answer), I'd want to film my dream music video for my song "Burbank Cowboy"! I have this concept of a time-traveling lesbian cowboy who doesn't understand that the film sets of Los Angeles aren't made for real high-noon shenanigans. To make the video properly, I'd need to rent time to be on a studio lot, have someone trained in handling horses, close down the streets of Burbank, and find someone to play the Burbank Cowboy.
