Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
We take a lot of inspiration from various places. Most obviously, we are inspired by progressive bands like Periphery and Vildhjarta, but we incorporate a ton of inspiration from pop acts like David Bowie, MGMT, and Massive Attack. We have a mixed heritage background and take inspiration from South American bands like soda stereo, and other world music across the globe. We don't like to stay in one corner musically, which a lot of our listeners appreciate and talk to us about.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I would hope to legitimize our standing within the mainstream scene. What we aim to do for every performance is improve our show in every way, and I can see how this opportunity would help us logistically plan out a lot of technical arrangements that aren't usually available to us. We treat our art with the respect it deserves and as a result have been pushing the boundaries of what is possible in our local scene for years now. We want to try our hand at doing the same on a bigger scale.
What would you do with $50,000?
Invest directly into the band. I have a vinyl distributor, as well as a FOH engineer and manager to hire. We have merch to sell, crew to compensate (who have up until this point been working for free), a lot of people who have given us so much but haven't received much in turn. We have so many talented artists in our circle that not only deserve greater compensation, but resources to enhance their art and we would love to provide for them those resources.
