Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I have too many! From Ella Fitzgerald, Eddie Floyd, Al Green, to Jacob Banks, Yebba, PJ Morton, Masego. They each have something that made them, them. Exploring different genres, turning a cover into their own. It’s incredibly beautiful.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It would definitely give me the strength, courage, balance, confidence and gratitude to continue to do what I do and not let a good gift go to waste. I deal with anxiety and depression but when I sing, I feel at home. I feel seen. I feel heard. I feel considered. That’s how I want everyone to feel when they listen to my music. We all can save each other just with alittle 808’s and dance breaks. It’s truly what we need right now in today’s society.
What would you do with $50,000?
Start an organization for my three family members who sadly all passed away on the same day due to reckless driving. They all loved when I would see them and sing to them. This is the reason I sing, to make me and everyone around me happy. It’s not about the money, it’s truly about just being a kind human being and sharing your story with the world just so others don’t feel small. We need more kindness in this world it’s a lot going on.
