Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I don’t believe in the societal constraints placed on Black women, I never have. I’ve never allowed myself to fit in one box; I aspire to be everything I can be, everywhere I can, all at once. This legacy is my musical inspiration. The possibility of shifting the generational future of my family. The message that exists within every step I’ve taken to get as far as I have, and the messages I have yet to express in the future. The power in my identity and in my story drives me.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would drastically impact the direction of my career. I began making music in high school, in the basement of my father’s house. It was only through his support that I became Jae’roze Tate, and this opportunity would introduce Jae’roze Tate to the globe. Proving that someone like me, a Black girl from a rural province in The Philippines, can make it to the big stage too. That my dreams weren’t too big, they weren’t big enough
What would you do with $50,000?
I come from a long line of women who weren’t given the chance to dream as big as I have. My grandmother didn’t finish high school, my mother didn’t graduate college. Despite being an aspiring artist, I am still pursuing a degree in Political Science and Psychology on the pre-law track, with dreams of becoming an international lawyer. $50,000 would change my life, allowing me the opportunity to continue pursuing my degree without the financial constraints that I face now.
