Q&A

Who or what is your musical inspiration?

I grew up in Mt. Orab, Ohio, surrounded by gospel, country, and classic rock. I started playing guitar in 1979, learning first from my youth pastor, Larry Unger. In 1984, I began studying jazz with western swing guitarist Lloyd Hazelbaker. I later earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Central State and a Specialist Certificate in Advanced Guitar from Berklee. I also studied privately with jazz guitar pioneer Jack Petersen.

How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?

I’d pour my heart into the festival, using every moment to uplift my community and share my music with the world.

What would you do with $50,000?

I’d use the $50,000 to revive jazz in my community through powerful performances and recordings that reconnect us to this timeless art form.
