You, my harmonica and drums.
Thank you for generously supporting John Peyton in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to empower Global Citizen in their mission to eradicate extreme poverty and create a world where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Early black Blues musicians from Lightnin' Hopkins and Jimmie Reed to John Lee Hooker and Buddy Guy have been my musical inspiration to play Texas Electric Blues Rock.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would massively elevate my social media presence—perfect timing as I release a new album featuring major players. I joke with my University of Texas students that I’m like Jesus—I have 12 followers. But I also stress how crucial it is to build an online presence. This opportunity would speak volumes—literally and digitally.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would invest part of the $50,000 in supporting my incredibly talented, under-resourced students—funding their recording(s), website(s), social media, and more. Some are already making waves; two have one song with over 3 million streams. I’d also use the funds to officially launch Austin Soul Kitchen (ASK), a live music venue in Austin, Texas, serving handmade soups. If someone can’t afford a meal, they ASK—no questions, no charge.
