Who or what is your musical inspiration?
David Byrne and Talking Heads are a North Star for us. Their music is percussive and cathartic; you can hear their influence on our tracks like Aftershocks, Paradise, and Misunderstood. We also love lyric-forward songwriting like Laura Nyro, Elvis Costello, Maggie Rogers and HAIM. Ultimately, what most inspires us is when an artist goes full out. Beyonce? Lady Gaga? They're not afraid of a gesture. So if we're going for it, we're going to really go for it and that's what sets us apart.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
As a band starting out, we've been playing small rock clubs in the tri-state area. After every show, someone inevitably comes up to us and says that our music belongs on a big stage or in an arena! The emotions we convey are huge so the music follows suit. To perform at the Global Citizen Festival would allow our music to be on a stage that fits the scope of what we are making. That would be game changing for our band, our live show, and the music we will ultimately make in the future.
What would you do with $50,000?
With 50K, we could fund our next album and continue our collaboration with our producer Jon Jetter. He made us sound like the biggest band in the world and to keep making records like that cost money! Plus we could actually have a budget to shoot a music video with something other than Sam's iPhone (and with a crew! can you imagine?!!?). With the prize money, we would able to dream bigger and create music to match the enormity of this moment in our lives and the state of the world.
