Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I’ve been inspired by a lot of those old school sounds from back in my father’s day. Anything from staples like Lynyrd Skynyrd to modern country blues rock like JJ Grey & Mofro and Drake White. One of my inspirations as a teen learning the nuances of the southern sound is Skip James. My music isn’t so much like his now, but the history of his sound inspires me. I still use some of those twangy blues style guitar riffs in a few of my songs.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It would change my life completely. Just the opportunity to perform in front of that many people is all I’ve ever wanted. I play my shows with the same intensity every time, no matter how big or small the venue. But I make it clear for the larger venues that all I’m looking for is an opportunity to show what I can bring.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would use that money towards starting my own production company in Alabama. There’s a thriving music/film scene that if nurtured could turn out some amazing material. You can see it now, all the talent my home state has to offer with strong roots in our soil. I’d love the opportunity to foster and develop that talent through a production company and recording studio of my own under the name Studio Dew.
