Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Lachi uses her penchant for hit writing to support her advocacy work for disability justice and equity. Inspired by the raw emotion of soul legends, the innovation of electronic pioneers, fearless icons like Nina Simone and Lauryn Hill, and the drive, focus and boldness she's gained as a blind daughter of immigrants thriving in New York City, Lachi creates music that reflects her journey, bold, witty, boundary-pushing, and unapologetically human.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Lachi's north star has always been to use fun, compelling artistry to break stigmas around disability to the masses. Constantly on tour, speaking and performing, her style and wit alone has seen her major in roads there. However, performing at the Global Citizen Festival would give Lachi unparalleled global exposure, amplifying her message on a massive scale. It opens doors to future collaborations, media coverage, and increased visibility in both the music industry and social advocacy.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would invest a significant portion into RAMPD.org (a platform helping bridge economic gaps for music creators and industry professionals with disabilities, neurodivergence and other conditions). With the remainder, I'd launch a digital series where I interview high-profile artists about their hidden disabilities/neurodivergence. This would normalize disability at the celebrity level, helping shift public perception, spark pride, and spawn opportunities for people with disabilities to thrive.
