Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Billie Holiday is someone I look to due to her compassion for human rights and the fight against injustice towards the black community. This is a fight I hold dear to my story as a musician because I know that others did not get to have those same opportunities that are available to me today, so I continue my own fight and her fight by singing songs like Strange Fruit and advocating for the fullness of black culture.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I don’t have words for the change this would make in my life! I think I would be able to learn more self-discipline and branching out. I think meeting so many new people with similar interests or even different ones can help me see the vastness of the human experience and how people are so connected even if they’re different. I would be able to promote my beautiful jazz and I would use this platform to show my musicianship and love for creation.
What would you do with $50,000?
First thing I would do is pay off my insurance and phone bill which sounds goofy but I need to get that out of the way. I would definitely put a good chunk in my savings or some sort of investing pool to help it grow as I am going away for college soon. I would want to make sure my brothers are stable and I would probably help my boyfriend move out of his house. I would DEFINITELY hop in a studio and do some sick recordings with my school band or even just as a soloist. Thank you for reading!
