Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I would say the who would be Lauryn Hill as my biggest inspiration. Her lyricism and passion she instilled into her music, particularly her album unplugged, was something that impacted the way that I view the world, my spirituality, and ultimately my music. Growing up performing jazz gave me the opportunity to perform with artists such as Herbie Hancock at a young age and taught me how to roll with the time signature changes as well as the punches. As to the what, I would say my life experience.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would open so many doors to people’s hearts for me. Singing soulfully is something that has always helped me healing, and I want to provide that for others as well. I want people to know it is okay to open your heart, to be soft, to feel.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would make sure that my family is taken care of, my loved ones, I would make sure that my community knows that I have it’s back. I have grown up in Florida, lived in Mexico and have now settled in New York. I have communities all over counting on me. I need them to know they are seen, loved, and that they will be tended to and cared for. People need to be assured that others feel so that they feel safe to do the same.
