Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My music is fueled by sleepless nights and silent battles. I take inspiration from the vulnerable storytelling of Lauryn Hill, SZA and H.E.R., as well as from the innovation of artists like FKA twigs, and finally from just pure emotion and rhythm. I also take inspiration from myself. In other words, I write music that I personally want to hear, that I feel is missing in the world and that gives me a nostalgic feeling. I like turning my personal experiences into soundscapes that can move people.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would amplify my voice to a global stage, and it would be unbelievable to align my art with a movement that I've resonated with ever since I was a little girl. It would align my voice with a movement larger than music, connecting with people across borders to show human resilience. This wouldn't just be a career milestone but a chance to partake in the power of togetherness to drive significant change that I would love to see in my lifetime!
What would you do with $50,000?
I would invest in a home studio, create an international collaboration series, fund a cinematic visual EP, and fund a youth mentorship program that teaches songwriting and self-expression to underserved teens. I would also use it for my marketing to help me to reach as many people as possible. The money would multiply my mission. It wouldn’t just support my career but would also help me make big moves to help my community and beyond.
