Who or what is your musical inspiration?

All of my musical inspirations are deeply rooted within the black community; Sade, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, The Roots, Tracy Chapman, Patti LaBelle ,Anita Baker, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder! I love contextualizing sounds from the 80s and putting them into electronica and a bit of new wave. I don’t believe in putting myself in a box as an artist, but because I’m black, that’s what tends to happen. My musical inspirations cross genres an


How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?

It would be a massive opportunity for myself as an artist! The subject matter of my show is a deeply resident experience within the black community, but it serves all communities within its message. Global citizen is the perfect place to spread the joy of being a black woman in the world! It perfectly distils the meaning of coming together and accepting one another for who we are. This opportunity would allow a deeper understanding of our contributions and spark healing within black women.


What would you do with $50,000?

I would use the funds to apply to showcases, globally and workshops where I would be able to present this piece of work in a lecture concert format. Touring is expensive-I would definitely apply some of the funds towards travelling to countries looking to be a part of and hear my message. I’d also make sure the musicians performing with me were paid a decent salary. We are never paid enough as artists and I’d want to be sure that those around me were treated and paid fairly. What an
