Who or what is your musical inspiration?
We are inspired by great recording artists, rock bands, producers, filmmakers, and even great literary figures. We view recording as painting with sound, and we aim to create melodies and sonic textures that transport the listener as we were transported by our muses. Our greatest inspirations are artists that do all of these things at once--music, engineering, performance, visual art, and poetic lyrics. There's something powerful and irresistible about a singular, well-articulated vision.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
We would get a chance to perform in another city and state while taking an active charitable role in political activism for three important causes: poverty, climate change, and inequality. This would expose our music to a wider audience and allow us an opportunity for professional and personal growth. Plus, any great experience we have eventually makes it into a song!
What would you do with $50,000?
I once read Peter Singer's thought experiment about the drowning child in the forest. It suggests that all people should feel a moral obligation to donate any money they make beyond basic living expenses. We've never been too keen on music for money's sake--just music for music's sake. Call me crazy, but I would donate 50% of it. We definitely need some new equipment, but these days music can be made on a shoestring budget. You can hold me to that! I believe people should lead by example.
