Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I’m inspired by the likes of Lauryn Hill & Kendrick Lamer who showed me that music isn’t about fame; it’s about spiritual and creative freedom. I'm heavily inspired by the Jazz and afrobeat fusion and sheer musicality and daring spirit in Fela Kuti's music and artistry. I love everything unconventional from J Dilla to J. Cole and Doechii and that transforms the way I engage with and create music.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
It would be the turning point. I’ve always believed my music was meant for something bigger. Performing at the Global Citizen festival would amplify my voice and connect me to a new world of possibilities. This stage would be the beginning of a global conversation between my music and the world.
What would you do with $50,000?
I’d invest in the world I’m building—starting with my debut EP slated for this summer, and continuing into my second project. I'd market boldly, with visuals that honor the depth of the music and storytelling that turns each song into an experience. Most importantly however would be starting my foundation that seeks to uplift young African women providing feminine hygiene education, mental health awareness and creative education and resources to foster daring African spirit.
