Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My musical inspiration is mainly drawn from original Rock and Roll, along with Blues and Soul, a sound which I have become more acclimated to since living in the South. Although my artist identity is Rock and Roll, and my writing is based on power chords, my vocal style is fused with glissando, belting, and the Gospel style. My vibe is a mixture of Joan Jett, laden with Robert Plant's belting, and Sly Stone's Soul style, yet full of Stevie Wonder's twang and Wanda Jackson's growl.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would give me the much needed nudge into engaging with my audience on a larger scale. I have been more of a recording artist. The benefit of performing for a live audience is sharing the emotional delivery in a more personal and intimate way, allowing people to connect with the music in the same way that I am connecting with it, letting them experience my artistry firsthand, in person, with all the feelings it induces.
What would you do with $50,000?
All aside from the money enabling me to cover all the production costs for my next album and music video, I dream of touring the country with my music as well as giving TED talks about what it is like to be a deaf musician, and how I was able to graduate from Berklee College of Music at the top of my class with profound hearing loss. I want to help inspire people everywhere to overcome whatever challenges they may have in the name of pursuing their passions, to never lose sight of their dreams.
