Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I’m inspired by the people who've lost but are still standing; given up, but not dead yet. My music stems from the despair of mental illness, addiction, poverty, and failed second breaks. I was molded by punk bands who scream truth and folk singers who whisper it, and felt like my fundamental goal as an artist is to help others by singing about finding catharsis in the mess of it all. Musically, I draw heavily from artists like Frank Turner, Bob Dylan, and a bit of Johnny Cash.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
As I mentioned, my music has always been about turning pain into purpose and helping those who're struggling. Playing this festival would grant the opportunity to amplify the hope I'm truly trying to put out into the world, as well as hopefully connect and inspire others. For me, it's not about fame-it's about the impact.
What would you do with $50,000?
I would undoubtedly work on my next album. I self-funded my upcoming album, "Growing up, growing out" and have since been working on a bunch of new material. That money would absolutely go toward completion and promotion of the next one.
