Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I’ve always been into bands that used their influence to better the world in some way. U2 is a big one for me for obvious reasons. Australia’s Midnight Oil is another band who made amazing music and worked tirelessly to bring awareness to environmental issues and rights for Aborigines.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I’ve been making music for 30 plus years. Upon moving to Nashville I ended up playing lead guitar for artists like Taylor Swift and Rodney Atkins. Ten years ago I quit playing for other artists to make my own music. I also became a dad. I’m currently making the best music of my life with my new project Shawn Byrne & Friendly Fire. Winning this contest would be fun, validating and an honor. I would also be able to show my boy Arlo that with hard work and perseverance you can do gr
What would you do with $50,000?
We’ve been wanting to take my son to Europe to experience other cultures. I’d probably invest a little back into my band. Maybe a music video? And the rest for not so fun stuff like bills.
