Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Slopdogs’ inspirations and influences fall into several categories. From a songwriting perspective, we draw on the simplistic punk stylings of groups like the Stooges, Nirvana, and Green Day. When playing live, we channel the intensity and precision of powerhouse performers like Led Zeppelin and the Who. And if we ever feel like we’ve gotten into a creative rut, we harness the experimental methods of the Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Each of us in Slopdogs has experienced that magic feeling that only music can conjure. So our band’s mission has always been simple: to share that feeling with as many people as possible. A performance of this caliber would fulfill our dreams of bringing ass-kicking rock n roll to a wider audience. While we get tremendous satisfaction from playing local bars and small venues in Chicago, our ultimate goal is to spread our sound far and wide, and this is a perfect opportunity to do so.
What would you do with $50,000?
We’ve recently finished writing a new album that we’re very eager to record. With $50,000, we could pay for dozens of hours in the studio as well as all of our mixing and mastering needs. We’ve kept recording and production costs fairly low on our first few singles, but with a larger budget, we could utilize more advanced production and post-production techniques. We’re ready to take more creative risks and perfect our studio craft, and this funding would open that door.
