Who or what is your musical inspiration?
The name "Small Talk" came up during a USC Thornton rehearsal room in October 2024 after a long scroll through Spotify. Someone mentioned the Briston Maroney song "Small Talk," and we instantly agreed. Six college freshmen from across the U.S. formed a project that grew beyond our expectations. How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Winning USC's Battle of the Bands gave us the opportunity to open for Don Toliver and Lyn Lapid at Springfest in the LA Coliseum—an unforgettable experience. Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would take things to the next level, giving us a chance to reach a broader audience, connect with artists, and grow as musicians. It would be our biggest show yet and a huge step toward our goals, both as a band and as students pursuing careers in the music industry.
What would you do with $50,000?
Winning $50,000 would help us take our band to the next level while staying grounded in our college roots. We've found success performing around USC and want to expand to new cities through a college tour, using student connections to play at universities nationwide. This would let us reach our core audience without needing large venues. The funds would go toward leasing a van for transporting ourselves and our gear.
