Who or what is your musical inspiration?
Growing up just outside of Detroit, Striking South was influenced by Motown as well as local Rockers like Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Mitch Ryder. At a young age John Denver, Fleetwood Mac, and the Eagles were often played in our homes. During our teen years, there were so many great bands who became the soundtrack for our youth. AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osborne, VanHalen, to name a few. The music of our generation was real, it had soul, and it rocked!
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
As we're wrapping our first CD since 2008, we're just getting rolling with booking show dates and expanding our geographic location. We're finding it to be a challenge to get a return call or email from venues. Playing the Global Citizen Festival would put us in front of a much larger audience and help us grow our following. The Global Citizen Festival could also open up some opportunities that we wouldn't get otherwise.
What would you do with $50,000?
All the studio time, promotion, and merchandise have been self-funded, so a portion of the $50,000 would be used to pay back the members of Striking South that have taken a hit to the checkbook to keep things moving in a positive direction. The next step would be to invest in radio and Spotify campaigns to continue to grow our following. In addition to our current line of T-shirts, merchandise such as hats and pins will be purchased. Anything left will be invested in band equipment and repairs.
