Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I am inspired to write music and perform as a way to process the world around me - like therapy. And I want everyone who listens to my music to use it as medicine. In particular I am inspired by the following artists: Prince, Sade, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, my father pianist Stanley Cowell, violinist Regina Carter, Corrine Bailey Rae, Jazmine Sullivan, Donny Hathaway, Alina Baraz, Miles Davis and Bruno Mars
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival would be an incredible opportunity to expose my music to a wider audience! As an indie artist, it is difficult to get the type of exposure necessary to expand beyond my hometown and I truly believe my music and message is meant for a more global stage. I also have honed my performance skills and sound over the last 10 years, so I would also be prepared for this opportunity. It would be a dream to perform at the festival.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000, I would put it towards production, branding, marketing, and advertising. I would do more studio recordings hiring professionals for instrumentation, hire other producers to further develop my sound, hire a professional to create visuals and merchandise to promote, hire a publicist, and put money behind ads on social media. I would also use the money for transportation to fund my own tours featuring a band I put together from local professional musicians.
