Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I'm inspired by the sounds of the '80s, '90s, and '00s - R&B and soul, dance and electronica, pop and adult contemporary, from Stevie Wonder to Mariah Carey and Babyface to Kaytranada! I really enjoy embracing and paying respect to the many genres I still love today. Though I didn't have any mentors, I learned on my own to produce, write, and record music - something I've done for more than half of my life and plan to do for the entirety of it!
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I'm a Black queer independent artist that not only relies on my skills to get me through tumultuous times, but will show what ambition, responsibility, and success looks like to young folks in my city of Rochester, NY, and countless other artists that I could provide opportunities for. For me personally, it would be me becoming the musical artist with the resources I deserve to truly flourish and connect with folks all around the world! I just need the right folks to see me!
What would you do with $50,000?
I'd invest not just in the personal growth required after having been seen by so many for having such an opportunity - it would give me the necessary time and space to follow up in a major way! I would also invest in opportunities to share with fellow artists! Also, have y'all seen the economy??? I've done what I've done in life up to this point oftentimes with an entire budget of $0, and after taking a very short and modest vacation, I'll be out here working hard to keep the momentum going!
