Who or what is your musical inspiration?
We are an eclectic group of musicians who have been playing and performing in various groups over 30 years. Our inspiration is vast from rock & roll, folk music, jazz, and all the alternatives. I would describe the Flatts sound as rock and roll, with a hints of country and folk, with harmonies, horns, harmonica and ripping leads. Inspirational bands include T-rex, Rolling Stones, Billy Bragg, Wilco, the Decemberists, Steely Dan, to name a few.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen Festival will be a game changer for us. For the last 2 years we have been playing local CT venues, who are primarily looking for cover bands, while we love the occasional cover, we are focused on getting our original music out to the masses. The opportunity of playing at a festival of the scope and scale of GCF would truly elevate us, and help us to define sound of New Haven, a great music city that I think gets overlooked a little between Boston, and NYC.
What would you do with $50,000?
We would go right into the studio to record our first album of originals, we have a deep catalogue of of original music and need to get the songs professionally recorded, mixed and mastered.
