Who or what is your musical inspiration?
My musical inspirations are my teachers, and band mates. Mark Wand was my first guitar teacher who I met when I was 12. His enthusiasm and ability to make learning fun led to my love for playing guitar. When I was 20, I met my first band mates, Peter Holmes , Amos Miller, and Earnie Ashwood. These friendships led to the first recorded music I ever got to create. Last but not least jazz legend and beloved community elder Gary Hammon. His work paved the way for jazz to become a studied elective.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
Performing at the Global Citizen festival would have a wonderful impact on my career. In addition to being a musician I am a community worker. Much of my work centers around advocating and sharing resources with communities facing poverty. The intention behind the music I create is to bring people together by conveying messages of love and unity. The opportunity to share this music with an audience of people who have gathered to support equity and inclusion would be a dream come true.
What would you do with $50,000?
With $50,000 I could help support my mom who is facing chronic medical conditions. She is a single parent who raised my younger brother and I, and has sacrificed a lot for us both to pursue our passions. The ability to use my passion of music to give back to her would be an honor. This money would also help me further my education in college. Lastly I would invest in myself as an artist to promote the full length record my band and I have just completed titled Love is the Key.
