Who will perform at the Global Citizen Festival, appear in Rolling Stone, and take home $50,000?
Who or what is your musical inspiration?
I’d say that Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Kendrick Lamar, and so many others are my musical inspirations. However, the major inspiration to my art is lived experiences. Any time I’ve failed, succeeded, cried, got angry, learned something new, etc. The best art imo is made from that place, and I wish to make it my mission to never change that outlook.
How would performing at the Global Citizen Festival impact your career?
I’d say it would help people know my experiences (and any experience of mine they relate to) can get a platform. I self produce all my work in my room, so being on a stage of that nature would result in diy musicians feeling more confident in their art. At the end of the day, whether it’s made in a professional studio or on a phone, music should be shared and respected.
What would you do with $50,000?
I’d use a good chunk of those funds to help my family out financially. I’m only 20 years old, and my parents have worked sleepless nights to ensure I have a good life. I feel like it’s my job to also give back, so I plan to donate some of those funds to foundations that benefit the arts in the more impoverished parts of my city.
